Usually each Sunday afternoon, I sit at my secretary and prepare the upcoming week's homeschool plans. Each of the four older children have a weekly chart. I have found this to be the only way to keep up with five grades and one three year old.
I make the grid marks by hands and write out each child's plan with pen and ink. I know I could do this on a computer generated grid or make a grid and make copies, but as I draw each line, I think about that particular child. That time of quiet reflection helps to guide me to meet the individual needs of each.
Warm wishes for a beautiful Sunday evening,
Tonya
That's a nice way to be thoughtful about your planning. I need to become more mindful in my ability to preplan!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to schedule your children's school. I'm sure it is a special time for you and it must show through to your children.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Elizabeth
I love how you plan for each child. I now only have one to plan for and a two year old to keep up with. I miss having all the children around the table for bible time and read- alongs.
ReplyDeletelove taking the time to draw the lines. I've got 2 children a year apart and most of their work is the same. I write daily assignments on the chalkboard wall in our family room the kids enjoy that.
ReplyDeleteI wish we were as organized in our schooling. I think the grid idea is great. I used to write out lessons/tasks daily and got out of the habit - thanks for the reminding!
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved what you said about the hand-drawn lines. I find there is something therapeutic in such tasks.
That's a great idea for helping keep each child on schedule and organized.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reminder as I sit here on Sunday evening catching up on all of the tasks before the week starts :)
ReplyDeleteI like the space where you write. I always choose to write by hand when I can. I have been wondering if Chloe like would like to have our plans for the week written out...
ReplyDeleteHope all has been very well!
(I do need to re-send my email soon...)
With love, Renee
Oh my, I need to start planning for the week in advance again! Like House full of Jays said, we just got out of the habit! We've been taking it day to day and I know the kids would be much happier knowing what to expect in advance agaian! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLovely planning Tonya:) Now that I have four little ones to teach each day, I think I must write out our week as well:)

I always prefered to do our plans by hand then on the computer I felt when I was doing them by hand I had a better grasp of what all was going I was only planning 3 grades though not 5 wow! ~Wishing you a most productive homeschool week :) ~Heather
ReplyDeleteI sent the last email Tonya, I do it a perhaps not so good way by just replying to your last blog comment, that's probably how you missed it before, please do not worry... Renee :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful reflection of the teacher's responsibility and love for her little charges...to be reflective and to see them as the individuals they are. I am at work writing report cards for my little kindergarten students; I could copy and paste, but I think each one deserves my full thought and foucs; these will be the first their parents receive! Blessings to you, educator-mama!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean about drawing lines by hand, as well as doing other things by hand. A body can get all kinds of guff for not doing things the way everyone else does or for not choosing the "fastest" route. I love your way of slowing down.
ReplyDeletePeace, Angela
This is so simple yet so thoughtful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTonya...oh, this is how I like to organize myself, too. Now with our new lifestyle, there are many charts and simple things to organize. And yes, there are easier ways to do it all, but I prefer the slow and deliberate, too.
