Weather Tree

A new daily ritual with Sarah, Grade K/1, is to put a new leaf on our weather tree each day.  I had a nice blank wall and quickly painted up a tree.  The idea came from the wonderful book, All Year Round.  Each day, Sarah writes the number of the month and colors the leaf in - for example, white for snowy, grey for cloudy (a lot of those these days), blue for rainy, yellow for sunny, a rainbow leaf for a family member's birthday, etc...
It will be fun to see it fill up with a variety of leaves in different colors throughout the year.

Warm wishes, Tonya

  1. What a fantastic idea. Thank you so much for this post. I have just the wall to paint a tree in my home and use the same idea.

  2. I bet there is nothing more fun to a kiddo than to be allowed to write on the wall!

  3. How much fun - I hope you post pictures of your tree through out the year so we can see how it changes. I wish I had a few blank walls, maybe a door will work.

  4. Love this idea! Is she making groupings by the month so she can visualize how many leaves belong in one month or is she placing them wherever she wants on the tree?

  6. What a great idea! I might try it myself (as I think my youngest would consider herself too old for such silliness). You could do it on a smaller scale, for example on a piece of butcher paper blu-tacked on the wall, couldn't you? I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  10. I love it! Are the leaves painted on as well? Or how are they otherwise attached? I think that it looks just great. So fun. :)

  12. Hmmm...that's such a cool idea. How about on some butcher paper tacked to the wall...for the smallest age group (my son!) maybe we could designated pre-cut leaves to certain days based on color. Like, grey pre-cut leaf for windy? Then, he could tape it to the tree and be done with a great momento for the year.

    How nifty! I LOVE it!
