I made up my mind recently to not be frustrated at the time it takes to continually help the two younger ones with their coats, mittens, hats, skates, etc.. and instead embrace the time by
praying for them, smiling at them, and being fully engaged with them for those
precious few minutes.
yes!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely decision; I've been thinking about similar things lately. Someday (all too soon) they won't need us to help them anymore, and then we'll miss the times they needed us in that way. I'm going to try and follow your example--thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wise Mom you are! This time goes by so fast, so to embrace it while it's there is perfect. I so miss my babies being little!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful idea. I struggle with this still sometimes and my kids are much older. Now it's remembering the tap shoes or forgetting lunch. I recently reread Jane Eyre too. Last years movie was so good. So haunting.
ReplyDeleteWise decision! Thanks for the reminder of the good ways we can use that time. I don't have to help get children ready nearly as much as I used to, as they are growing up, but sometimes they do still need help (especially with skates) and your post was great encouragment to help them with the right attitude. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!
Tonya,
ReplyDeleteThis time will past so quickly...I wish I had two little girls again even if there were mittens, hats and snow everywhere..smile..
I will pray that God will fill your heart with peace...and that you can enjoy from the window their silliness.
Many hugs,
~~Renee
I need to work on this too. My son has so much trouble with gloves....
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this!
ReplyDeleteI love this attitude, thanks for sharing....
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wake up call. I get so frustrated in the morning with my Cameron and getting him ready for school. I need to step back, breathe and realize these are precious moments to savor.
ReplyDeleteI made the same type of decision a while back and it has reduced my feelings of stress considerably. Jesus invites us to live in the moment and I got the idea after reading some of the verses in the New Testament on why we shouldn't worry. I'm so happy for you to have made that decision!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely. What a good mama you are.
ReplyDeleteBlessings Gail
Beautiful! I have been struggling with this. With 3 feet of snow on the ground and no end in sight I have been definitely struggling. Thank you for this encouraging post.

I love this...truly! :)
ReplyDeletethank you, Tonya- I needed this!
ReplyDeleteOh it can be so exhausting sometimes when they are little. You are one amazing lady and mama Tonya.
ReplyDeleteThis is huge! I'm a kindergarten teacher in Ontario. I wrestle, cajole, and encourage 21 little ones into snowsuits three times a day, find mittens and hats, tuck snowpants over boots...and yes, it does require a very deep breath, and much patience. I find it hard to summon it for my own little ones at home (call it snowsuit burnout!)...but your post is a lovely reminder.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that our climate does not require us to deal with...but we have our other challenges! The fleeting day of below freezing weather was enough to make be remember how thankful I was to live in the South..even though I miss snow!
ReplyDeleteWonderful decision on your behalf, Im in the fortunate position to be raising my grandchildren, they are 4 & 7. My eldest child is now 30, it seems as though my life as past in a blink, time goes so quickly. Im Buddhist, as a such, we try to live in the present & be mindful. This can be challenging, especially with little ones or even teenagers...... but this precious time we pass & be gone forever......may you find strength & peace xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! We live in Southern California, so now hats or mittens. But the shoes and jackets seem to take forever when we need to be somewhere, and I sometimes get short with them. I will try to be more patient. =-)
ReplyDeleteTonya...Love love love this! Oh, how I love this. Yes, I'm with you on that one...some days I can laugh it all off, and get them giggling about their turtle pace, and other days, I'm weary with the mountains of layers. I like your idea. Thanks so much ~ enjoy your weekend.
