Coming Out of the Deep Freeze

After a few days of really cold temperatures (it was -20 last night at 9:00), we are finally warming up to about 15 degrees today.  We can see out our windows again.   This is the first time since we have lived here (this is our 5th winter) that the windows have been completely iced over.

We also brought the ducks down to the basement workshop for the night just to be sure they would make it.

We had a visit today from a friend that has moved away from the area - with his little girl.

If you read this blog regularly you may know that Abby is our baker.  I bought her this book for Christmas.  It profiles 17 women that are at least making a portion of their living from baking cakes and it includes many recipes.  Today she baked her second cake from the book.

We are completely out of candles now after the holiday season and from losing power right before Christmas so I am taking the rest of this afternoon to finish candle dipping.

What are you up to on this winter weekend?
Warmly.
Tonya

  1. It's been really cold here, too, as you can see from my newest photo. Not my ideal weather, but what can you do? My boys are working their muscles, for sure, carrying the chicken waterer up and down the hill every day. ha! Of course, to kids, it's fun. And they'll go out and play in that frigid weather like it doesn't even bother them! Crazy!

  3. WOW! That window looks beautiful! I know it is cold but I believe Winter is one of the most beautiful seasons.
    The cake looks delicious!

We have still been on vacation mode but back to the grind tomorrow. This weekend we went for walks, watched football, ate good meals, had good times together. Today we are off to church and more football. Pork and sauerkraut for dinner. YUMMY!

    Have a beautiful day!

  5. Lovely little picture by the window. Cake looks yummy. I made my first homemade cottage cheese, husband just made some butternut squash and ricotta ravioli, and we're still cleaning out the attic. So we're dusty and full!

  6. We finally had a break in the cold here in S. Ontario, the inch thick ice melted off the windows and now we are plunged back in today. This winter has been a shock to me! That cake looks great! I have just been thinking what cake I will make for tonight's Three Kings celebration, I would love to make this!
