Knitting and Reading

On the needles are two Christmas gifts - a plain vest in a size 7/8 for Sarah and a simple ribbed hat in black for one of my men.  Into the mix just to keep things interesting, I have started to make granny squares of some yarn that I dyed - some plant dyes and some low impact acid dyes.

I know that God led me to this book- Almost Amish by Nancy Sleeth.   When reading the description, I did not know that it was based on one family's journey to a simpler life based on their findings in the Bible.  This is just what I needed right now.  I have a tendency to ebb and flow with organized church.  We go every Sunday and generally, of course, I love the people, but  meeting others that have similar values as myself in terms of caring for God's creations, well that is rare.  I have been thankful to come across other Christian simple living types through the blogging world, however.    The author of this book has started a nonprofit called Blessed Earth - a faith-based, environmental nonprofit organization.  I am eager to learn more about this nonprofit and to work my way through her book and will share more here on my blog.

Joining in with Ginny today.

  5. The granny squares are so sweet! What is it with these men wanting us to knit black hats?? I mostly have mine convinced that forest green is just as good. ;) It's a bit easier to see when I'm knitting in the evening! xo Mackenzie

  8. OK your post today was inspired by God, I believe because while searching Amazon yesterday for Christmas gift ideas to give my husband and son, I saw that book you are reading and put it on my list. Like you, I am a Christian who simply doesn't understand the conservative mentality of bigger, better, newer, use more, throw away more, spend more, etc., etc.. We are trying to go simpler as well. Now I will put three stars by this book and move it to the top of my "wish list." Hope I find it under our "downsized" tree! Thank you and have a great day!

  13. Thanks for the recommendation. Living like this can be lonely. Why the American Church seems to think The American Dream is the Gospel instead of the other way around, I don't get. I'll see if our library might have this book.
