Nolan has been wading into the pond with rain pants tied with rope over his rubber boots to pull up our reeds.
We are doing this because we have leaches and we would love to clean the pond up to swim in some day, but even more importantly to increase our ice skating space for the long winter ahead.
Thomas and Sarah were helping by dragging the pulled reeds to a pile by the woods. Of course the mud that comes up with the roots is the really good black stuff and they could not help themselves but to have a little fun.
How nice to have a pond on your property!! In CO you are LUCKY to find a stream through properties and THAT will cost you a fortune!!! But a pond? How dreamy!!

That looks fun! What beautiful land you have! Leeches!? Yipe. When I read that all I could think about was Nellie Olson, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and those leeches. Your plan for more skating space sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteleeches.....augh!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteice skating.....mmmm...now I am looking forward to winter!
How wonderful! Imagine skating on your own pond! Sounds amazing. I have just spotted your trees over on your shop, they are adorable!

Linda
so funny! thought of Nellie and Laura also!
ReplyDeletewhat a huge job...but it'll be worth it, if you can eventually swim in the pond.
ReplyDeleteSkating on ponds is the best! Our pond is completely overrun with reeds and is far off in the bush. So our skating rink is manufactured and lives close to the house. Not nearly as picturesque as a pond!
ReplyDeleteBlessings...
Do you have any plans for the reeds?
ReplyDeleteMy Father just put in a farm pond, it amazes me how quickly the reeds grow even there! Thinking of ice-skating in the winter is a lovely image! xoxo
