Such a full week

There are many moments in my days where I breath out hard and heavy and just pray to God to give me patience, energy, and a loving heart to continue on through all of the hundreds of small details that make up both a mom's day and a small business owner's day.  But remembering all of the beautiful moments that make up our days helps me to keep perspective and to remember that there is so much joy and so much love that does go on each day despite my shortcomings.

With Abraham and Emmy needing a change of pace and with myself trying to do too many things at once, we all needed a change of pace the other morning.  I grabbed a basket, some graham crackers, a jug of water, some knitting and a blanket and said, "Let's go have a morning picnic snack on the other side of the pond."  We found some berries along the way.

Abby, Isaac and friends working on building a dock.

I smile whenever I find one of Abe's drawings.

She is now walking as she pushes the stroller!

The first canning of the season was completed this week - Carrots in Honey and Vinegar, Pungent Green Beans, and Pickles.

Sarah and Abraham love pickles and made quick work of finishing up the ones that were leftover after filling up the jars.

Sarah is now reading and we are having a hard time getting her to stop!  It has taken some patience, some diligence, and some faith that all of her small steps towards breaking the code would finally be victorious.

Wishing you a beautiful day.
Warm Wishes,
Tonya

  1. Dear Tonya, what a beautiful week- simple, and full! The hand crocheted blanket looks like the perfect way to picnic- and grahm crackers and a mason jar of water is our style too. :)
Emmy looks so adorable walking along- and your home in the background look so warm and comfortable- I love the rustic style.
And a new reader- isn't it wonderful!
    Love, Mel

  2. Isn't it just so wonderful when a child finally learns to read...especially if it has been a bit of challenge for him/her. I enjoy being able to peer into the window of your family's life every few days. Have a blessed Friday.

  3. I know what you mean! Sometimes I just feel the need to shake up the day and change it around to change moods and give us a new perspective on a day:-) A picnic always does the trick!

  5. Congrats Sarah..what a wonderful blessing it is to be able to read.

Tonya... I think "adjusting" is essential with mothering/parenting. It doesn't matter what age they are. One needs to be able to change and adapt. I now have three teens (home-schooled) and up until this year always home-educated in the morning. That just doesn't work with teen LOL! So instead of stressing and "trying" to "make it work"I am adapting...and we now school in the afternoon. I use my moring now too catch up on chores, craft and work on my own studies.

  6. Congrats on your first canning of the season! We'll have to purchase veggies to preserve - we are eating our garden's 'bounty' as quickly as it is ready!

    Have a lovely weekend.

  7. I feel exactly the same way. I HAVE to focus on those little moments and remember them. Today I grabbed my son's hands and we did a little circle dance to music in the kitchen. When I was working outside the home, I didn't have time for this. Such a blessing and I thank you so much for your inspiring blog that helped me to find my way to being at home.

  9. Hello dear Tonya, A morning picnic sounds lovely. And I do love the crochet blanket. I am working (so so slowly!) on my granny square afghan, but think I would also like to do a simple striped one.
It always makes me happy to see the simple and beautiful moments from your days. Big girl reading, big girl walking!
Please know that you are often in my thoughts, even if I am still fairly quiet lately.
Love to you and your sweet family!

  10. I love reading about what you and your family are up to. We live in a small house on a small city lot and dream of having a homestead someday. So, it's wonderful to live vicariously though you until that day happens. Thank you for all that you give and share.

    Warmly,
    Ann

  11. What you said about getting so caught up in the struggles of the day and needing to step back and intentionally remember (and notice) the beautiful moments resonates with me, for sure! That picnic sounds so nice - I'm glad you had the idea and the grace enough to go for it.
(And I love the bench in the picture with Emmy and the stroller - did someone(s) in your family make it?)
Best wishes to you as you start this week! - Annie
