Pumpkin Painting :: A Simple Children's Craft

This is a simple natural painting activity for you to do with your children to add a touch of autumn splendor to your home.

We each started with a blank birch branch slice.

Using Lyra watercolor paints (these are just wonderful!), we each got to work.

Depending on your child's age and skill, you could drill a hole in the top and then carve the end of a branch to fit in the hole snugly.  Cut off top of branch to length of pumpkin stem you desire.

Each one was made by a different age level, in case you couldn't tell:)  We allow for creative expression through art.  I added a piece of wool roving to my pumpkin's branch stem.

We put our pumpkins on our seasonal shelf.

Warm wishes, Tonya

  1. What a fun idea. My girls would be inspired by this as they seem to like small palettes upon which to paint.

  3. So cute mama!!! Now where on earth are you getting all your wood? You must have a lot of trees on your property?? Do you also have a fire for heating? We are considering this as we want to live mostly off the grid and a woodburning stove and heat would be a good idea if we have a wooded lot in CO.

  4. Wow, how cool is that? You all are one creative family. I love that you used birch too. It is just like autumn. I'll have to try those Lyra paints. The crayons have worked well for us. Thanks for sharing. You made me smile. Peace, Angela

  7. I love those! What a great idea. We plan to make wooden buttons, and that is a great use for bigger pieces of wood!

  8. Oh Tonya, I know how much my children would love this! We are going to have to make these this year. Only in our case, it'll probably be ash, of course!

  14. Such a wonderful natural canvas to create on :-) I too see endless possibilities in this. I can't wait to access more of the intact round logs in our woodpile (currently all located at the bottom or middle of the pile of mostly split wood).
