Off to College

We had all seven plus two here last night for dinner and fun.  This morning Nolan and Rachel left for Lancaster, PA where Nolan will be attending Lancaster Bible College as a full time freshman. They are brave as they will be navigating Nolan's college work, looking for jobs, and getting acquainted with a new area all at once.

It was hard to say good bye for now - knowing he is 9 hours away - but also so wonderful to know that he is pursuing his passion.

  5. Tonya, I can't imagine that you would take advice from a stranger, but here goes anyway :) Last week I saw a young man I hadn't seen since his youth (I was/am friends with his mom). What a wonderful man he has grown up to be! He and his wife went to LBC. They live in the area and might be a resource for your son. He owns Lyndon Heath Cabinets and she is a gifted photographer. (is your son interested in woodworking?) They might be helpful with finding a church home or job advice or feeling at home in the area. I guess that is a wild brave idea, a cold call, but who knows?

    2. ack, I didn't see this until late - but did see your followup - so hopefully N + R are starting the long adjustment? I go to church in a college town (Houghton, NY) and this morning we were packed out with new students (to both the boarding high school and the college) and their parents. I greeted the ones around me and told one young man that I had been in his shoes nearly 40 years ago. I was befriended by a family (a professor and his wife and children) and it made all the difference. Later, after college, my husband (who grew up in Houghton) and I moved back to the area with our baby daughter and my husband hooked me up with Lyndon's mother. And, again, it made all the difference! They moved out of the area so seeing them last week was such a blessing and I honestly believe that seeing Lyndon all grown up was right on time for this post. I pray that your kids receive regular assurances that they are on God's path, and that he will provide for them.
I sure was concerned that you would take me for a lunatic busy body :)

  8. Thank you for sharing bits of your family's story with the world. Something about your photos and words speak to me in a way I don't hear anywhere else. (Well, except a couple of other brave bloggers, some of which are yours too!)
