A Branch for Hanging Stockings

Over the last several years I have downsized our Christmas decorations to just a few - one tote is all - and mostly all that it contains are our ornaments, lights and stockings.  Then we add some new things we may create during the season and some bits from outside brought in - real simple.

Nine stockings, if they are all to be displayed, do take up a lot of space.  This year I have hung them on a birch branch suspended by two branch hooks.

  2. I love this. I have done the same thing over the last couple of years. I have kept our collection of ornaments and a few things from my childhood, but the rest comes from nature. It allows us to be creative each year without spending any money for new decorations, and I think it is much lovelier. This year, I wanted to hang a branch like you did to hang a few ornaments from...but I haven't started decorating yet. Thanks for sharing.

  4. I love the branch! We have a painted metal rod that does the job, but this is so much prettier!

  5. I love this idea... I wish we could bring the outside in but we have terrible allergies. We can't have a live tree and if we had a fire place ugh..we would all would be stuffed up:) I love seeing your pictures..I think it feels very Tasha Tudor (ish)

    Many Blessings!!!!

  6. A very good idea, looks impressive. I keep our decorations pretty simple too, never buy anything new but bring out the same things every year, full of memories. A lot of the things are handmade by the children. Nature is all around where we live and provides lots of raw materials for decorating. Pam

  7. A beautiful simple way to showcase the stockings (and your own handmade birch hooks - very nice). Has to be a heavy branch with all of those stockings to fill! When my husband and I got married and moved into our own home, I brought along my stash of Christmas decorations. My mom is very big on Christmas decorating and so I used to be also. However, over the years, either from feeling that I was too busy, that our house was under some type of construction, or because now I just feel that more simple and natural is the way to go, I have pared down what makes me feel "festive". Yesterday I got out the bright red snowman hooked rug to make a sitting area for my little babe and she immediately headed over for it and smiled. That made me merry!
