Knitting and Reading again for the Yarn Along

I knit up this small lavender sachet the other day on a car ride and while waiting for our older son to audition for the musical, Jekyll and Hyde .  The pattern is once again from the same knitting book I keep mentioning, Vintage Knits for Modern Babies.

I am just about finished with this book.  It is filled with inspiring essays written by an Old Order Amish and an "Englischer" that became friends.

Looking forward to seeing what others are knitting and reading this week.  Thank you to Ginny for hosting this wonderful weekly Yarn Along.

**On another note, I am going to begin Monday postings called A Handmade/Homemade Holiday where I will share a project I am working on and would love it if others might leave a comments with a link to their handmade/homemade holiday ideas.**

Warm wishes,
Tonya

  1. I read the same book back in early summer. Really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed "The Amish Cook" book which is a series of columns written by an older Amish woman and then her daughter, who live very near us, here in Indiana. It details the rhythm of their lives and reminds me of a blog.

  2. The sachet is lovely. What a great way to use up the small amounts of yarn leftover from bigger projects.

And I look forward to the handmade/holiday link. Great idea!

  4. Thinking of you a whole lot lately, Tonya. . .!
Oh I would of course participate in the handmade holidays link up. :)
I'm thinking you won't be going to Sheep and Wool this year, as you'll have your brand new little one- we're hoping to go.

  6. I agree with Debbie - great little project to use up bits and pieces of yarn. Do you line it with something?

  10. Wunderbar! I really enjoy all the interest in our friends (the "Amies" as we call them) that I have seen on blogs lately. It seems like interest in them waxes and wanes....but little is known of us! (Our family is a *very* progressive Mennonite family - no old order here) ;) Love that satchel!!

  11. Oh, os excited about the handmade holiday. I was just cleaning up my blog and came across the button for last year. Glad you will be hosting this again! Lavendar is a favorite here. We use lavendar sleep spray. The little one calls it moon spray. Love the sachet! The book sound interesting. Will have to look for it at the library. Take care and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  12. I recently read Plain Wisdom and really enjoyed it! I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts about it. I was surprised at how what they had in common seemed to outweigh their differences.

  16. Hi Tonya,
I just wanted to tell you that you've been on my mind a lot lately, with lots of good wishes for when your wee one arrives. I am sending lots of positive thoughts for a smooth labor and healthy baby and mama, and I hope that you have a positive, present experience bringing this 7th baby into the world!

  20. Dear Tonya...Oh, how are you!!!!!! As always, I admire all your knitting projects. And that book looks interesting. But mostly, I am so excited you are doing the handmade for the holiday again. That was such fun! Oh, you'll be a busy mama...good to start early. I started in July (!) but came to a standstill when I got sidetracked by homeschooling plans. I was hoping to do a weekly homegrown schooling post on Thursdays. I'd love to know what other mamas are doing with their homeschooled littles. Anyhow, many hugs to all of you...soon you'll be a bigger clan!

  25. I love the idea of knitting the lavender sachet. It would help to release the fragrance, in the same way as lace. I tend to sew our sachets, but you have inspired me to try knitting them next time. I like to knit on journeys. It keeps me awake!
