I had this funny feeling when Isaac (he is 12 years old) came in from outside, stuck his head inside the door and said, "They have fires in igloos, right?"
I replied, "Yes, with a hole in the roof, of course."
A little while later he came back in and asked, "Mom, can I have some matches?"
(just a note, there were no little ones outside with him when he did this)
As I went out to check on him a little later I discovered ~
Now, if he asks for some whale blubber, I would startto worry :0}
ReplyDeleteYour intro caught my attention on Chocolate Fishies sidebar.
We have an igloo in our yard as well, though ours is without a fire ;-) Actually, come to think of it, it *is* situated right by the fire pit, which is host to regular bonfires. I have also snapped a few photos and might even get them posted...someday. I love how children embrace snow and mould it into creative learning opportunities.

That's pretty sweet! His first bachelor pad! (I jest, I JEST!) Really that is amazing and kudos to you for raising a kid who would think to do it. :)

Love it! We do igloos here too from time to time. The fire is a new one; what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHow great is that!! Good for him!
ReplyDeleteWe had one when we were little...it had a side out door since it was on a hill top.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Now, has he gotten the dogs tied to a sled yet??
ReplyDeleteYes! That is awesome!
ReplyDeletefabulous :) i remember my first time in a real igloo in my first (and only, so far) trip to Iqualuit, Nunavut. i hope we get enough snow this year to build one here. i can't believe i'm hoping for more snow - but the last 2 winters in Ottawa have been devoid of the mountains of snow we got used to.
ReplyDeleteThat is too cool!! We haven't had snow yet, but that makes it a wee bit enticing.
ReplyDeleteSo great he is creative and thought it through.Gotta love a child with imagination nowadays.Warm Blessings!~Amy
ReplyDeleteOh Tonya, this is soooo wonderful! I love his creativity and vision. It speaks to me also as my husband teaches igloo making to an outdoor school once a year. Our yard always hosts a few different types of igloos during the winter, depending on the type of snow. Such fun, snowy, playful times:)

How cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see kids still being kids and having fun outdoors - I thought computer games were quickly replacing that - - then again there's igloo firepit fun ;D
snow igloos are ABSOLUTELY my favorite childhood memory. THE best times were spent in these 'castles'. thanks for the reminder!
