We made a holder for our advent candles in a birch branch from a fallen tree. I still have to add a white candle for the center for Christmas day.
This Sunday we will light one candle and burn it each night with our supper. Next Sunday we will add another candle and burn two with our nightly meal, and so on. Each candle represents the following words.
Candle of Hope - the hope we have in Christ.
Candle of Peace - a reminder of the peace that God brings to us by forgiving our sins.
Candle of Joy - represents the joy that God brings into our lives.
Candle of Love - represents God's love.
Warm wishes for a peaceful Sunday,
Tonya
So very beautiful Tonya, I look forward to lighting our advent spiral. It certainly is a lovely time of year!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind comments on my blog. Your advent preparations look perfect - simple and homely. I love how you have such natural things around you. It is balm to the soul to touch the things of the earth. The child who grew up as the son of a carpenter would recognise these things, and handle them with love, I think, don't you?
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Tonya. I love your birch holder and your Hope, Joy, Love, Peace words on wood circles. Simply beautiful. Happy advent season.
ReplyDeleteyour birch advent candle holder is just gorgeous! wishing you and your family a peaceful and light filled advent.
ReplyDeleteLovely! We are ready with ours as well. I love this time of year, don't you?
ReplyDeletelove your handmade candle ring....gorgeous and thoughtful:)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I better get on it if it starts tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Birch candle holder that you have made Tonya, it is so beautiful. Wishing you a peaceful time for you and your family...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and simple advent candle holder! so lovely!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the United Church of Canada, and I remember that the wreath of Advent candles was a big part of the worship services during advent. We had a wreath at home some years, too. It's something that I miss--perhaps I should revive the tradition in our own family, although we don't have any lovely birch chunks to use as a stand. :)
ReplyDeleteYour advent candle holder is lovely. How good that you know exactly where it came from. This morning in church our minister did something new with the church advent wreath. Each of the four candles around the circle is a different colour. He got out a compass and asked one of the children help him to place it with the white candle to the North. On this first Sunday we lit the candle facing West. He asked the children to think of countries to the west of us - America, Canada, Mexico and nearer by, Ireland ("Hollywood" was one child's suggestion as well) - and we prayed for people in those countries. I guess we will go around the globe over the next four weeks!
ReplyDeleteOh Tonya, what a very beautiful advent candle holder!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and simple holder for your advent candles. I usually put mine in a table top wreath but always have to get creative to keep them stable, I going to try a holder like yours. Thanks so much for sharing it. Love the birch peace, joy, hope and love rounds too. You have such wonderful ideas.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad you shared this I am going to make and advent candle holder but have not decided how to do this yet. This is a great idea. I may do something similar ~Love Heather
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Have you considered selling the candle holders and the "word" blocks in your shop? Our family lit the Advent candle today at church and my boys had so many questions - I realized that I have not done a good job of explaining this aspect of this time of anticipation - they understand the celebration part - ha ha!
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening!
So beautiful Tonya. I hope your day with your family was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLots of love, Renee
