Quaker Meeting

We had our first Quaker Meeting this morning at our home. With the size of our family and without a dedicated Meeting House within a 45 minute drive, we asked the other family who was previously hosting Meeting, if we could start holding it at our house so that it would be more conducive for the children as well as start meeting every Sunday.

For our Meeting we have decided to have the first 30 minutes in silent worship where those who feel led are welcome to share. For the most part it is a time to quiet oneself and to be filled with the Lord. The next 30 minutes we will discuss a topic, share a Bible verse or other meaningful verse, and sing. It was really fun to sing with our boys playing the guitar and keyboard. We sang Jacobs Ladder and Swing Low Sweet Chariot.

On the homestead - the chicken that Sarah nursed is 100% and so much so that we can't pick her out of the flock. I have lots of pictures to share tomorrow as I walked around snapping photos this evening.

Warm wishes, Tonya

  2. Oh Tonya, that sounds absolutley amazing! We have previously attended various mennonite churches, and have currently settled on a really nice Evengelical church by our home to which we can walk to. We also have a really nice quaker school called *the Friend's School* they have a great plant slae in the Spring. I have always loved home church though, and someday it would be nice to do something like what you are doing. Sounds like it was a great grace filled morning! Are you by any chance quiverfull? I ask because we believe the Lord is leading us in that way, and with suc a large family that you have, it's nice to hear about how your family does it!

  6. Ahh, Quaker meeting! My brother went to a quaker school. My children went to a quaker school for their early education (up to about grade 3, when we moved). They used to go to meeting once a week. I've been to many a quaker meeting, and love it. Awesome.

  8. Thanks for sharing about your meeting. It's interesting to know how other lives are unfolding. I'm especially delighted to hear that the hen has made a full recovery.

  9. I've struggled to find a Quaker Meeting that would work for my family. The ones that happen near us have few children and don't have anything set up for their involvement. It is wonderful that you took the initiative to start your own.

Glad to hear that the ill hen has recovered.

  10. Home worship must be so nice. I attended quite a few Quaker Meetings when I was getting my degree at University, and it was a moving experience. I am sure it was amazing to fill your home with song and praise.

  12. I miss meeting, but as I appear to be the only Quaker in my county, I have met by myself for years. However, I have started attending a Methodist church here near the farm. We had 29 for service this past First Day. It is quite interesting and I am blessed for going.

Gremlina, I attended New Garden Friend's Meeting across from Guilford College in the 1980s. Perhaps you were there then? I so miss that meeting!

Tonya, you are always a blessing to read! I've missed you this week!

    Fondly,

  14. We have Quaker friends here in Reno. The Meeting sounds really interesting. What do the kids do during the silent worship part?

I'm glad to hear about your chicken. I think something like what happened to yours, happened to mine. She got really sick and wasn't eating. We took her to the vet and she felt her crop which was full of grit. Then a few minutes later our chicken was coughing up black stuff and went into seizure. So, I asked her to put our hen down. Next time I will check the crop first thing. So, your daughter just massaged it?
