Boxes and Books

Who needs presents when boxes are much more fun....

Who needs screens when...
... "Reading a book is like a movie in your brain. You just space out because you are so into it," said eleven year old Isaac.

  1. Love the picture of your little one. So cute! I have an 18 month old who would certainly agree on the box issue and several older ones who would agree with Isaac. Warm wishes for your holidays. Kimberly

  2. Oh I'm so happy to hear an 11 year old said that!
It's so true... I'm a big lover of books. Looks like you've taught him well.
The screen in your head has such a clearer picture than the movie or tv.
What a blessing- a big box of treasures! I just got my book I'm reviewing from Thomas Nelson; it's so exciting when they come, isn't it?
Hope you have a blessed weekend.

PS. I don't know what your beliefs are with children on the computer and such, but I know of a website all about books run by a group of homeschooled children, very intelligent and inspiring. They post many reviews on books, talk about books, host contests and give away prizes (guess what those are!) at the end. They review many christian books and the others included are classics, or just good plain books. Here is the website of you want to check it out:

  3. Adorable quote!! My kids love playing with boxes. In fact we usually have a stack of 2-3 boxes in the corner that they take out almost daily!!

  4. I love your pictures today! Many times the gifts were left and the toys tossed in favor of the boxes in our house! So cute! Enjoy the snow we are sending from the South!

    Take care,

  5. I love seeing glimpses of other people's book shelves. We love cardboard boxes and books around here too! :)

  6. I honestly thought about giving my children a set of five boxes, fully assembled, for Christmas. I thought that we could set it up like a choo choo train and maybe even carve an engine to enjoy. Your post is making me seriously consider the possibilities.

  7. My girls play with so few real toys. Boxes are much more joyful for them... and right now... snow. A lot of it. I do love books. I was an English major, yet I do love movies. We have a TV and we use it on the weekends. I view films like I do books in many ways. I read quite a bit. I usually have a few going at once. My girls are very bookish as well. My little one is just warming up to them though. Sitting still long enough to enjoy a whole book wasn't her cup of tea until recently. :)

  8. It never seems to amaze me that if we stand back just for a moment and enter into our childrens world how much we can learn from them. How it is "us" who thinks they need more not them. We are a book loving family too.

Many Blessings to you and yor family.

  9. Each year, my children anxiously await Christmas, not because of what they're going to get, but because of the boxes those gifts will come in. (All of our family lives out of town.) My in-laws actually gave my nine year old a pair of heavy duty scissors for his birthday because he loves cutting up and making things out of boxes so much.

Thank you for sharing! I love the quote, by the way. They are so wise, aren't they?
    Merry Christmas!
