Simple Advent

We went out and found a birch branch to drill four holes for our advent log and then stopped by a local farm to pick up four beeswax tapers. We lit the first candle on Sunday and will add an additional candle each Sunday until Christmas.

Yesterday we renovated the back portion of our barn to accommodate 19 chickens and one rooster that some friends needed to find a home for before they leave for four months. We have doubled our chickens and are hoping to hatch some chicks in the spring.

Warm wishes.

  1. we started our advent readings last night...I need to get some candles out for the readings...the kids always love the lighting of the candles. Maybe I'll get my guy to drill me some holes in a branch like yours...great idea!

  2. Great idea. I just had to show Mr. Miller this. I told him this is what I want. I need to order a stacking toy for Henry but I need to wait until Wednesday when I get paid. Thanks again for the inspirations!

  10. I love advent. Yours is so simple. Last year after advent I picked up a metal candle holder with the four candles and 1 in the center for $2. We aren't using it this year as we don't live in our own home but it will be something we will cherish for years to come.

We are using a simple votive to light the candle, do our readings, and add a decoration to the Jesse tree.

  11. What a sweet holder for your advent candles. Lovely. I'm using a candle that's numbered 1 - 24 and you burn a little bit each night. I just love celebrating Advent :)
