Knitting and Reading

Still working on the cardigan for Emmy - I am on the sleeves now and still do not enjoy working with the four needles, so it will be slow going.  My knit blanket is still progressing but I am still on the green so don't have anything new to show.  It seems that the urge to begin spring cleaning has begun.  Deep cleaning and painting have taken priority.  I think it is my inner self wanting to get the inside projects done now so I will be  ready to work outside as soon the snow melts.

I borrowed this book from the library last week and had high expectations as Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors.  I am about 100 pages or so into it, and it just hasn't "clicked in" yet.  I am not sure if it gets better or if it is just the first of her books that I am not enjoying.  I am curious to hear if anyone else has read this?

Looking forward to the sharing today at Ginny's Knit Along.

  1. Have you tried knitting sleeves, tubes, socks etc. on a long circular needle? Line them up parallel with both points to the right (needles divided between them), then pull out the "back needle" to work across the stitches on the front needle. I no longer use dpns for anything because I too hate using four needles at a time! I'm sure you can find a youtube video that explains this more clearly...

    Here's my yarn along!

    1. I have to agree, I love the magic loop method. I LOVE circular needles, it's all I use now, even do all my straight knitting with circulars.

    2. I second the magic loop method. I am making my first pair of socks this way -- just google magic loop on YouTube and you will see lots of examples. I just learned this way, about a week ago :)
Yes, I am deep cleaning too, though Tim is sick today.

  3. I think it looks lovely! Knitting on 4 needles can be a burden sometimes--I like to knit sleeves using the magic loop method.

  4. Tonya, I read Flight Behavior last month and did really love it. Like you're saying, it took a while before I really got into it - for the first part (I can't remember how long, but long enough that like you I started wondering), it seemed to sort of drag, or repeat itself too much. And I think it does somewhat throughout the book, but I was able to get past that, and it really spoke to me. I'll be interested to hear what you think, if you continue with it.

  5. Oh, Tonya...I love love love Emmy's sweater. It is beautiful ~ your colours are lovely. And Barbara...well, I've never liked her fiction much myself. I hear it depends on what you first read as she is quite diverse. The first one I read was not very good and so I'm reluctant to read more. However, her non-fiction book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" is one of my all time favourites ~ go figure.

  6. Love the cardigan you are knitting, it looks soo cosy! Love the soft colours too. I quite like knitting with five needles - went crazy knitting an enormous number of socks when l was pregnant. I am knitting a jersey now, but am really dreading the sew and cut bit for the arms. That is always scary :-). Pam

  7. Your cardigan looks lovely.
I haven't clicked with any other of Barbara Kingsolvers books but AVM, I don't know why.
Spring cleaning has been happening here, too.

  9. Such a lovely sweet sweater!

I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed much of Barbara Kingsolver's books - I've been curious to try more of hers (beyond Animal, Vegetable, Miracle which is the only I've read).
